Renting an SLR lens in the UK

I wanted to rent the Canon 50mm F1.2L lens, so I goolged 'lens rental uk' and the first non sponsored link was Lenses For Hire.

Here some of my thoughts on the experience with them:
  • Very informative on the website and over the phone. The online the terms and conditions was very friendly as opposed to the usual intimating legal tone.
  • Very fair with rental duration. Lenses For Hire does no charge you for the use of the lens outside of your rental period. I hired the lens from a Saturday to the following Saturday; therefore they delivered the lens on a Friday, the day before the start of rental, and expected me to return it on the Monday. They did not charge me for the Friday, Sunday or Monday that I had the lens because it was outside the rental period.
  • Pricing is competitive when compared to other places like Calumet photo. Lenses For Hire charged me about £8 a day, but Calumet was asking for about £30 a day. The cost of delivery and returning the lens is not in the price, but there many options including picking it up free of charge.
  • Very good reputation on the Internet. A basic google search for Lens hire in the UK lead many forum posts praising Lens for Hire.
  • The lens came in excellent condition. It also came with a lens hood and a UV filter.
  • The rental process is excellent. They even provided additional packaging and a return address sticker to make it easier sending it back.
  • They let me take the lens abroad
  • Insurance was included in price
I am very happy with Lenses For Hire, and I would definitely use them again.
