Keep shooting

I have observed that many photographers, including me, spend a lot of time obsessing over gear, posting on forums, reading photography books and worst of all not taking photos. A lot of the time we don't shoot because we don't know what to shoot or we can't shoot for one reason or the other. So many great photographers say, "Shoot what you love", but that is easier said than done; after all I love my wife, but she 'runs for the hills' when I point my fast fifty at her (ok, maybe she does not anymore)! I have a belief that if you have a purpose you will shoot; this purpose can be a related to travel, an event or anything important to you, but a lot of the time the purpose is just not there often enough. So I decided to make up a purpose by starting a photography project; there are many project ideas online such as: taking a photo every day for a year or taking regular self portraits, but how is that important to me? I decided that I needed a project that I can shoot indoors (so that the weather can't interfere) and will help me improve my exposure and composition skills. My first project will be to make photos relating to the decimal numbers; to make it a little more difficult the subject has to have a common relation to the number it is representing, for example, a pair of shoes can represent the number two (and no I am not going to my shoes now). This is important to me because it will keep me shooting, I can put into practice all the techniques I read about and I believe if I document my progress I might encourage others to do similar things to spend more time behind the camera.

My first shot is here and the series will be hosted on flickr:

I will post on how I made this image later.
